Jinming Experimental Center promotes industry cooperation and innovation

2015.08.04
Jinming participated in CHINAPLAS 2015 with its advanced units and production lines. As one of the largest film equipment suppliers in the world, Jinming naturally received a lot of attention from inside and outside the industry. The highlight of Jinming's participation in this exhibition, the first comprehensive experiential experiment center in the Asia-Pacific region, which has been mysterious until now, has finally unveiled its mystery.
Ma Jiazhen, general manager of Guangdong Jinming Precision Machinery Co., Ltd., accepted an exclusive interview with reporters.

★Mr. Ma, hello! Could you please introduce your company's current market situation?
Ma Jiazhen: Jinming's core business is extrusion technology, and its winding technology is also good. Last year, the market grew, and the domestic market accounted for 70% of the total. It used to be a half-and-half share. With the expansion of the domestic market, the foreign market share is relatively smaller.
I feel that the recent market is seeking progress while maintaining stability. Competition is fierce in relatively common fields in the domestic market, and there are relatively few high-end markets, and the domestic demand for this area is huge.

★Tell us about your experimental center in detail?
Ma Jiazhen: We are the first to build an experimental center in this industry in China. Future research and development will also be carried out in the experimental center. We will do research and development for product applications and determine the market. Don't always work behind closed doors. We provide this platform for the purpose of being used by customers, raw material manufacturers, and partners. New materials, new pursuits, and new applications can all be researched and developed in the experimental center. Generally speaking, everyone participates in the integration of the industrial chain. Customers don't want to invest too much, but they don't know where these things are. And there are a lot of raw materials here, as long as the demand is mentioned, we can develop it together according to the demand. In fact, many foreign companies have been doing this for decades, and their model has been very successful.

★Do you have any cases in this regard?
Ma Jiazhen: For example, the stand-up bag project with an American cooperative company is based on customer needs. They report that the current packaging has defects such as high leakage rate, insufficient quality control, and poor engineering. So we provided him with a solution to solve his problems such as bag leakage rate, stiffness, and gloss. In response to these problems, our experimental center cooperated with raw material manufacturers and customers to jointly develop a formula and a device.
We have also consulted with customers on individual development. On average, it takes one and a half years to develop a product without success, and the investment will be huge. But if there is such a platform, it will be much easier for each to play to its strengths. For this project, we disposed of it in three months.

★Could you explain in detail? Including what resources Jinming can provide on this platform, including which raw material manufacturers can cooperate, and what kind of solutions can be realized?
Ma Jiazhen: There are several common processes for making films: casting, up-blowing, down-blowing, and double-drawing. From the perspective of plastic machines, these are the processes for blown film, and the four processes cover all applications. Now our experimental center can provide tape casting and down blowing processes, and double-drawing will soon be available. In fact, it has covered all the equipment of the film forming process.
In terms of raw materials, we have a very good relationship with several major manufacturers. For example, BASF, Dow, Mitsui, and ExxonMobil have always been our partners. They have their own strengths. BASF is strong in nylon, Dow Chemical is strong in linearity, ExxonMobil is strong in metallocene, and Mitsui Chemicals is also strong in PP and polypropylene. Then combining their respective strengths, they will do very well.

★What do you think are the new trends in the film market in the past two years?
Ma Jiazhen: In fact, the demand for functional films is increasing. For example, there are films on smartphones, and films on LCD screens when you buy them. These applications are constantly expanding. In the past, cars did not have films, but now they are also being pasted, such as heat insulation film, explosion-proof film... We may not have heard of these three to five years ago. With the expansion of these applications, the market scope is very wide.
Our experimental center has been doing this effort, but there is no one institution or a dedicated department. Our case does not exist only in theory, but customers have already done it, entered the market, and started to make profits.
